Gábor Mihályi
Artistic Director

Recipient of the "Harangozó" Prize, a renowned Hungarian prize for choreographers, Gábor Mihályi is a prominent artist and artistic director. He graduated with an M.A. in teaching and choreography form the Hungarian Academy of Dance. He began his career as an amateur dancer in Jászberény. In September 1982, Sándor Timár invited him to become a member of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, where he soon became a solo artist. Between 1996 and December 1997, he worked as a commissioned artistic director, then as dance group director, and at present, he is the artistic director of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble. He has created fourteen shows for the HSFE. He constantly works with groups performing in related arts, holds different kinds of dance workshops, and works as a choreographer both at home and abroad. In 2000, the Hungarian Association of Dance awarded him the "Artist of the Year" prize. In 2007, he was awarded the EuróPAS Hungarian Dance Award, the professional prize of the Dance Art [Táncművészet] journal.
